Burbank Airport (BUR) Area Crashpad

WHO WE ARE:

We are two pilot roommates who have a house near BUR (~2 mi.) and offset the costs of living in Los Angeles on an aviation budget by renting out additional living space at the property. We are not a business and we do not collect profit beyond living expenses and accommodations. Permanent residents (that's us) are Udo, a charter pilot and full instructor (CFI-AIM)...

... and me, an instrument-rated, private pilot and ground instructor (AGI) completing additional ratings as able, usually at VNY (~6 mi.). I am working on my Ph.D. in Aviation Psychology, and I continue to work on projects and papers with the FAA following a 1-year temporary position with CAMI's Human Factors Research Laboratory analyzing ICAO standards. (CAMI is the FAA's Civil Aerospace Medical Institute.)

Other permanent residents include the feline and canine variety, so animal-phobes or allergies are probably not a good mix. Sometimes it may take us a couple days to return a call, due to erratic travel and work schedules -- please, do not call multiple times in one day, especially without leaving a message, rather be patient for a return call or better yet, send email.

THE CRASHPAD:

*** Please note: We're relatively new in this property and are in the final stages of remodeling the space to better accommodate the crashpad arrangement (and get rid of the pink, yellow and burnt orange and the funky layout!) The current set-up shown is very temporary and the new addition has its own separate bathroom, complete and separate kitchen facilities with a sink, washer & dryer, as well as additional common and utility areas both inside and out. The sleeping facilities will be dedicated (sleeping only) and host more privacy. Interiors & exteriors will aspire to an aviation theme in both function and feature.***

The available space consists of a large shared-room: dorm-style with 6 permanent beds: 3 loft and 3 day beds, and 3 additional trundle beds available if needed -- think "youth hostel".

The space also features a common area with a pullout couch-bed, work-desk and computer with hard-wired high-speed (as well as constant WiFi) , and TV with cable and VCR/DVD accomodations. We provide a kitchenette area in the crashpad including dish-storage (with provided dishes and flatware), a microwave, full-sized refrigerator/freezer, coffee-maker, toaster, toaster oven and hotplate. Currently, water and sink usage are shared in the main kitchen and/or bathroom as needed.

There is a full shared bathroom and a common room, that is currently combined with the front living room. This is furnished with TV, DVD, X-Box, Nintendo and a library of media (that must remain in the common room, please). The front and backyards are available for use (barbeques, etc.) and contain several fruit trees (orange, lemon, grapefruit...) which you are welcome to eat when ripe. We live directly across the street from a nice public park with a jogging trail, basketball court, and sports fields and well as food vendors, barbeques and picnic tables. We also have a full set of home gym equipment for use, that will be set it up in a dedicated space after construction.

Housekeeping in commonly used areas is everyone's responsibility, though we do have a service we can call if people collectively or individually decide to spring for the fee. We do offer use of our washer & dryer but laundry soap, toiletries, etc. are your own responsibility as is stocking and cleaning of your food in the fridge. We also offer a couple of bicycles for your use should you wish, but again, we take no responsibility for ongoing maintenance or security; accordingly they may need some repair to get 'em moving. If you have a vehicle, there is plenty of street parking.

Additional amenities include:

The office facilities are available on as-needed/as-available basis, and the computer in this room is not otherwise for public use.

RENT: $450* for bunk or daybed -- inclusive of all utilities & amenities.
*$375 when trundles are in use

DEPOSITS:

$100 non-refundable* deposit is necessary to hold a space for your arrival, which becomes part of first month's rent. Mail any deposits (check or M.O.) to the street address of the property, made out to "Mel Futrell". All personal checks must clear before space will be held. A minimum of one week's notice is required for move-out, or $100 is due toward the next month*.
*This policy covers our costs for finding another renter on too-short notice. If you are able to find another qualified renter in your stead, we will return your $100. First month's rent must be cash or money order. Any rent refunds requested due to schedule changes or otherwise, are returned within 30 days. Again this spares us from sending off a rent/mortgage payment and being shorted funds at the last minute.

$20 CASH deposit is due before any key is issued, which will be returned when the key is returned.
